We believe empowered and skilled adults are the key to creating long-term, sustainable, flourishing youth work. In communities that have been historically underfunded and supported, working on key skills and spending time honing and diversifying the offerings can often take a back seat. Our mission is to relieve some of this stress by providing bespoke, tailored training delivered with the end user in mind.

In October, over 70 adults and young leaders attended our hands-on skills training workshops. Over the day, each attendee learnt a number of skills delivered in a 90-minute format so they could take the training and deliver the same offering to their young people. It is imperative, especially for new leaders, to build a strong foundation and be trained in useful and practical elements that they can use for their young people.

Over the day, the attendees learnt to

  • Cook outdoors and tried their hands at drop scones, Bannock Bread and Welsh Cakes.
  • Knife safety and whittling skills
  • Ropes, how to create ropes from Swedish tree braiding, to rope machines to a single-person rope maker
  • Challenges: Hands-on, fun team challenges ideal for engaging with young people
  • STEM: soldering and making badges that light up
  • knowledge share; ideas / best practices, and networking
