Equalinks CIC was founded in 2022 to advocate for historically marginalised groups by influencing national policy and supporting organisations working in underserved communities. Positioned as a connector or “Equa-link” between significant institutions and grassroots initiatives, Equalinks CIC strives to bridge gaps, foster collaboration, and promote meaningful change.
Recognising significant disparities in the youth sector, particularly among young Muslims, Equalinks CIC noted that this group faced heightened social and economic challenges. These included poor mental health, financial instability, inadequate housing, and a higher exposure to poverty—factors disproportionately impacting young Muslims compared to the general population. Compounding these issues was the limited access to well-resourced support services; many young people could only turn to fragmented and underfunded programs, which often failed to meet their needs fully.
To address these challenges, Equalinks CIC launched the Muslim Youth Alliance in 2023. This initiative was designed to provide targeted support, amplify the voices of young Muslims, and work toward securing adequate resources and opportunities for their well-being and development. Through this alliance, Equalinks CIC aims to create lasting change by addressing the root causes of disadvantage and advocating for more comprehensive, inclusive support systems for young people.
